That is, our cake topper was personal. We ordered the personalized topper with our initials done in a beautiful brushed silver. It really looked exquisite on our wedding cake. I wanted something other than the traditional bride and groom figurines, and I thought this was really impressive. My mother in law complimented me on the selection, and even commented on what a lovely job I did on our reception decor. She particularly liked the centerpieces I chose. She thinks I have good taste. I think we’ll get along just fine as mother and daughter in laws. She seems to have good taste too.

The sad truth is that area rugs have become a matter of taste vs function. Most “expert” decorators say an area rug is an accent, others see it as a necessary evil in case of no other option. The truth is area rugs are both. Style and design choices, combined with the raw functionality makes area rugs one of the best accessories for your home. In my own home we have three area rugs. One is in my “man-cave” which is in the basement without carpeting. This carpet is to keep my feet warm in the winter(I hate wearing socks in doors in my own house)and secondly it’s for my two children who primarily play on the floor. The second area rug we have is in our entryway, it is NOT a door mat, we have one, but that is not it. This area rug is to cover some damage on the porcelain tile from before we moved in, and secondly it is to make our entry way warmer and less bland. It has received a number of compliments from friends, family and guests. The last area rug we have is in our nursery. We have a wood floor in that room, but it always felt “off” until we put the area rug in there. The room has a blue motif(two boys, go figure), and the wood mixes well, but the floor always made the room feel incomplete. The blue rug we put in that room has done wonders to make the room look nice. These are just examples of what my family has done with an area rug. And our home and budget are admittedly limited. The best thing is, that when we get a little more money we can buy more and switch them out and that can change the atmosphere of the whole room. The functionality and switch-ability of these area rugs makes them great for people who want to change a room without breaking the bank.
